These new capabilities will make SQL Server Express more attractive to potential users than its primary "free" and "open source" competitors- Oracle 10g Express Edition, IBM DB2 Express-C, MySQL 5.0, and PostgreSQL 8.1. The most important updates included in SP1 March CTP are promotion of database mirroring to production status for SQL Server 2005, and the addition of SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) plus full-text search features to SQL Express. Microsoft posted on download instructions for the first public Community Technical Preview (CTP) of Service Pack 1 (SP1) for SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server Express.
